DataWorks recruits young people from communities historically minoritized in computing and employs them as data wranglers.
Through DataWorks, we hope to broaden participation in computing, and in the process, foster diverse approaches to data science, support equitable labor practices, and develop just forms of engagement between universities and communities.
Income generated from contract-based projects from non-profit, government, and for-profit organizations helps sustain DataWorks. The data workers are hired as Georgia Tech employees with benefits and are paid hourly.
The CAT Lab studies how culture impacts the use and production of technology with a focus on learning applications, computer science education and designing new technologies with culture as a point of convergence.
