The GVU Center at Georgia Tech

The GVU Center at Georgia Tech is an interdisciplinary academic organization dedicated to the challenge of transforming computing research into innovative, relevant, and useful solutions that make contributions to the real world needs of people—as individuals and communities.

People everywhere have a need to be connected to one another, to communicate, to learn, to heal, to be entertained, to create, to express their ideas and visions, and to be given the tools and opportunity to improve their lives. These are the needs that the GVU Center embraces as goals.

Technology alone cannot solve the problems created by the complex needs of people. People working together solve problems—and at GVU, these partnerships are what we do best. Our approach is truly interdisciplinary, meaning that faculty and students from every college at Georgia Tech come together to lend their particular expertise. That expertise might be computer science, engineering, biology, mathematics, or medicine. But it might just as easily be architecture, design, music, psychology, sociology, education, or public policy. Our versatility and breadth of interdisciplinary expertise is our most unique and powerful asset.

Our belief is that the best solutions happen when a diverse and committed group of professionals bring different perspectives, skill sets, and experiences to the problem-solving table. This environment is truly where some of the most exciting and relevant work in academic research is being done.
