Student Events
The GVU Center hosts a number of annual events of interest to the GVU student community including:
GVU Welcome Reception – Held annually at the beginning of the school year, the welcome reception is an opportunity to welcome and introduce new graduate and undergraduate students and faculty to the GVU Center. Returning students and faculty are also invited to meet and greet and discuss their summer activities.
Interactivity@GT Student Showcase – An annual event highlighting the research of GVU students, providing an opportunity for GVU Industrial Partners to connect with students as part of GVU’s industry internship program.
CHI Preview Talks – Previews of research papers to be presented at CHI, the premier annual conference for ACM’s Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction.
GVU Brown Bag Lectures – Brown Bags are weekly discussions by students, faculty, GVU alumni and guest speakers focusing on specific themes related to their research (www.gvu.gatech.edu/events/brownbags).
CHI and SIGGRAPH Receptions – Two annual events to meet and greet fellow GVU students, faculty, alumni and friends attending and participating in these major computing conferences.
DVFX Screening – Held annually as part of the CS 4480 class (offered during spring semester), students present their final productions of short video segments containing technical special effects they have generated during the course. Students work on all aspects of the production from story-boarding to shot-planning to camera-work to writing code for special effects generation, to sound and and music editing and video editing. They also produce a "making-of" to explain their production.
GVU Showcases – Demonstrations highlighting the latest in GVU research involving computing, graphics, visualization, usability and human-computer interaction.
Industrial Partner Visits – GVU has vital relationships with its industrial partners. Google, Nokia, Kodak, Dell, Motorola, Sun, Pixar, Steelcase, Siemens, and Turner are some of the many partners who visit GVU on a regular basis.
